Do not wait until you have a great work on your car to find a good auto repair shop. You have to find a good service before you actually need one. Otherwise, it's usually too late and you're at the mercy of any shop you take it. You are in your grace, that they will properly repair your vehicle, and their favor that they will not charge you too much.
Here are some things you need to do before you need a big car repair work:
1 Ask your friends if they know of any good repair shop. Friends help friends and their advice can be helpful, especially if they have the same model car you have.
2 Try to find an auto shop that has mechanics who specialize in your vehicle make. For example, if you have a vehicle that is made in Japan, you May want to consider a repair shop that specializes in the repair of Japanese vehicles. This can make a big difference.
3 Check your phone book and called several places. You can learn a lot about auto service in a conversation with them over the phone. Are you friendly? Do you have sound support? You should also ask them how much they charge for the repair of certain parts of the vehicle, such as brake adjustment or replacement. This will give you an idea of prices at these shops. Also, ask them what they have to warranty parts and labor.
4 Once you have narrowed your search down, go online and go to the Better Business Bureau's website at BBB.org. Find out if any complaints have been lodged for potential stores that you select the ratings and what they've been receiving.
5 Find out if a potential trade you choose to have the mechanics are ASE certified. To become ASE certified, the mechanic must have at least two years experience and pass a test.
Do these things now before you need major repair work on your vehicle. I know because I made the mistake of not doing these things before my transmission went out and the repair cost me a small fortune. I later learned that another shop that has ASE certified mechanics get it done for much less.
Do not make the same mistake I made. Search and find a good auto repair shop before you need it.
